In the year before Sundance allowed camcorder Short Films I was the Writer-Producer-Director for this Short, “Boxing God.” It was half 16mm and half shot by a high-quality camcorder from Sammy’s Camera. Merging the two mediums had never been tried and it turned out great. They asked if I could convert it all to film and if I did I’d have a winner but the cost was over $15,000 and the deadline was only days away. I showed this film in the theater near the original Moviola Editing Studio near Paramount a few times as word spread about not only the filming technique but how well the Short captured the passion of the artist creating art and films. It was shot in two days: Melrose Avenue for day one, and the outstanding La Luz de Jesus Art Gallery on Hollywood Blvd. It was the first time the owner allowed anyone to shoot film inside but he read the script and allowed it. Enjoy, and hopefully it inspires you.
